Musically it sounds a lot like Springsteen's album 'Nebraska' to me, which I love. Nebraska was recorded by Springsteen alone on some cassette tapes. They were intended to be demos that would later be recorded with the E Street Band backing but Bruce liked them so much alone he released them as the were. They are slow and methodic tales of desperate people with no hope for the future.
'Prisoner' is also full of slow and methodic songs but are all about Adams and his sad situation. He misses his wife. He really really really misses her. Every song is a reminder that he misses her.
I've been waiting here like a dog at the door
You used to throw me scraps, you don’t do it anymore
I miss your loving touch, I miss your embrace
I could wait a thousand years, my love
I'd wait for you
I could stand in just one place, my love
And never move
I been thinking about you, baby
Been on my mind
Why can't I feel your love?
Heart must be blind
It must really suck for Ryan that Mandy Moore has a hit TV show. She's in commercials everywhere. She's showing up at all the award shows looking amazing. Must be a real bummer. Great for his music though. The guy who wrote this album is the saddest, loneliest man alive. He's also a great musician and isn't afraid to bleed out onto the track. I thank him for that quality. This is my favorite Ryan Adams album in a long time. I think it is his most complete since Heartbreaker.
