Winter and some gross kids find the silver toothed mans dead body. Winter pulls out the silver tooth.
The American Spy, Dumbarton is stitching Delaney up. Seems he is now convinced Delaney is on the same side as him but wants information. Delaney tells him he wants “all the tea in china”. We also find out that Carlsbad, the US Spy that has a direct line to the President is a woman. Delaney is surprised by this. Is it a woman we have already met? Lorna? Helga?
Prince Regent (in the worst fat suit ever made and looking absolutely foul) is told about Delaney and tells Coop to do business with him.
Winter shows up from the shadows again and gives Delaney the silver tooth and asks him to teach her magic.
Delaney goes to his mothers room. Takes the boards off the window. Finds a marking in the fireplace then has visions of a tribal women (his mom?) He has the same marking branded into his back. He suspects that Brace knows a lot more about these things than he lets off.
Coop and Strange have a little meeting, Coop talking on behalf of the Crown and Strange representing the Company. Coop has the upper hand. He nonchalantly does some snuff and tells Strange that he has more spies than him and knows everything. Coop lets Strange know that Delaney requested beaver pellets and had no mention of tea. So it seems Delaney may not be an American spy and may not be interested in trade at all but just saying these things to throw the Americans and the English off. They both agree that the land can not go to the Americans and that Lorna Bow, the late Delaney's widow is their best option moving forward.
Delaney goes to a brothel, or drag house of some sort and finds Godfrey, the note taker from the East India Company. Him and Godfrey go back a ways. They were at the seminary together and Godfrey tells Delaney that he was in love with him then. Delaney blackmails him into spilling EIC secrets. It’s blackmail but also Delaney is paying him because he’s a swell guy and they are friends!
Delaney and his sister write letters back and fourth to each other. In these letters he tells her his plans. It seems his new trading company is being built to fail and that he is “accruing a band of loyal servants, none of whom have any value to me beyond the facilitation of this greater good” That band includes, Brace, Helga, Atticus, Dumbarton, and Godfrey.
Zilpha writes back that she is hashtag done with him and not even going to read his letters anymore.
Lorna Bow shows up at the Delaney household and declares the house half hers. She has been informed about everything from Coop and lets Delaney know that she doesn’t give a shit about the land. She will trade her half of the land for his half of the house. She also offers a bunch of his fathers belongings, letters and drawing and the thought of these send Delaney into a fit of visions of his dead parents.
Geary pays a visit to tell him about all the great sex he has been having with his sister. Fairly rude.
Zilpha meets her brother in church. Straddles him. gives him a quick kiss then says goodbye forever.
Zilpha isn’t pregnant and her husband Geary is pretty mad about it. Probably because her one true child is the love child of her and her brother.
Lorna Bow is tricked into a carriage ride which is actually a kidnapping of sorts. Whoever set her up knew she would attack the man, who happened to be a Duke. Delaney comes to her rescue but now the Company or the Crown or the Americans have a reason to come after her.
What We Don't Know
Who the killed his father? Is this even important anymore? It feels like it should be but we haven't really been trying to tackle it the past two episodes. The East India Company is still the best guess since we know they put a hit on James Delaney and hired an assassin to do it. They surely aren't against murder.
What is Delaneys plan? Revenge on the Company? Money? To fuck his sister? I don't think he is an American Spy anymore. I don't think he solely wants revenge. Could he have killed his father? Is that how he knew he was dead and to come back to London? Would that be a twist that no one is expecting?
What does that symbol on his back and the fireplace mean? It's called a Sankofa, a word from the Ghana language which translates to "go back and get it". There is more information on the symbol here.
No fucking idea. I like to think that Lorna Bow and him team up. She seems like a fun character to have around. Strong willed women who isn't scared to fight back. Now that she is in the thick of it with him I think she will have to work with him rather than against him.
I can't even think of where this series is heading. Hopefully it doesn't fall short.
