This week we are doing top 10 Tom Hanks movies. I went through his IMDB and found out I have seen TWENTY-TWO Tom Hanks movies! That's a lot. I think that's got to be my most movies seen of a single actor.
Jimmy is in blue. Evan is in green.
It’s a pretty heavy watch, but it definitely belongs on the list. A groundbreaking movie that I hope to never be in the mood to watch again. Listening to “Streets of Philadelphia” by Bruce Springsteen will be the closest I get.
Sleepless in Seattle
I haven’t even seen this movie but I’m sure it deserves the #9 spot.
The Money Pit
Another early Hanks film back when he was just doing comedies. Him and his wife get a great deal on a house only to find out they got swindled. One scene Tom gets stuck on a hole in the floor and goes delirious. "Let's try BRAD!" is a funny line that Ritzy and I love.
That Thing You Do
Tom’s directorial debut! It’s a movie about 60’s music where no actual music from the 60’s is used. The title song is pretty damn catchy though.
Charlie Wilsons War
"Tom Hanks. Yes. Julia Roberts. Sure. Amy Adams. Yeah. Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Oh hell yeah. For real I don't think many people have seen this movie because the plot isn't the most interesting but it's a good one. Phillip Seymour Hoffman (RIP in Peace) is hilarious in it." - Me
Catch Me If You Can
Easily my favorite actual performance from Tom Hanks. The movie as a whole just isn't as good as most on this list. He basically plays an Edgar Allen Poe character come to life, and he just knocks it out of the park. One of my favorite characters in any movie ever.
A League of Their Own
Jimmy Dugan is one of the best fictional baseball characters ever. Every scene he's in is funny. Here's a 18 second one to prove my point.
Saving Private Ryan
Probably my favorite war movie? Definitely has the most badass battle scene in it. When the sniper (Barry Pepper) is up in the tower and he’s reciting bible verses while just picking guys off left and right. So cool, but then he gets exploded. But then there’s also that wimpy soldier who is always fucking up. That’s probably realistic in war but it’s tough to watch.
Catch Me If You Can
This movie is amazing. Leo kills it, one of his best roles. The cat and mouse between him and Tom Hanks makes for a great watch. There’s a mutual admiration between them that lets you somehow root for both characters. It’s based on a true story which is pretty cool because some of Leo’s stunts are just zany! Maybe Jimmy will link the scene where Tom almost catches Leo in the Motel? Or when he does catch him in France? Maybe he doesn’t even read these.
The famous Jimmy Valvano Speech. The one where he says every day you should laugh, you should be moved to tears and you should think. Well watch Forrest Gump and you will knock em all out in three hours.
I don’t like when people say “OoOoh if you haven’t seen ______ then you’re a loser moron”, but if you haven’t seen Forrest Gump then you’re a triple loser moron.
Thanks to SnipNinja for all the easy made videos!
I like the Yankees, watching TV shows and talking about stuff.
