When we moved to Australia in 1998 my mom wrote a Christmas letter and sent it to all the people who probably did not know yet. Back in 1998 you couldn't post it on facebook and have everyone aware of your whereabouts. So the couple hundred distant family friends recieved a letter explaining the situation. It then became a tradition and necessary since we moved ever 2 or 3 years after that. In 2004 my Dad was going to stop writing the Christmas letter so I took it over. Do most of the families who receive it even read it? Who knows, probably not. But there are a couple big fans out there so I keep writing it for them. And for myself because no one finds me funnier than I do.
Hello Everyone! Merry Christmas!
We hope this letter finds you well and at the end of a joyous 2016!
For us this year was dominated by one main event. The first O’Brien wedding. Everyone was involved. Luke and I were groomsmen. Ritzy was the maid of honor. Mom was the mom and Dad walked Courtney down the steps and to Brett who was waiting with a smile.
Some of the other happenings of 2016 are…
Courtney and Brett Hirsch are now one entity. Never to be thought of as individuals for the rest of their lives. They got married at city hall in San Francisco (the same place that Harvey Milk was assassinated at) on October 8th. The entire building was shut down for the wedding. It was a black tie affair. It felt very special, like a mob wedding or a Kennedy wedding. They both wrote beautiful vows that had almost everyone in attendance tearing up. Especially Luke, he cried like a little baby and there are pictures to prove it. Besides the marriage nothing else has really changed. They are still living in the Marina District in San Francisco. Brett is still working for GoPro and Courtney is still spying on people under the guise of xAd.
Ritzy is 25 years old and has benjamin buttoned herself back to her twelve year old body. Super tiny. She gets more and more into yoga each and every day. She just received her teaching credentials. So she is now a teacher of not so smart kids and of flexible adults. She is hoping to combine these two passions and bring yoga to the elementary school. Wouldn’t that be something? Still no love life for Ritzy. Sad!
Lucas is a senior in high school and sports a dainty patch of hair on his chin. He is the captain of the hockey team. He is probably getting good grades in school but I’m not sure because I don’t talk to him about boring stuff. What’s really important is that he plays my dad in ping pong every night and even though Luke has a better serve, better slam and better defense he still manages to lose just as much as he wins.
I am working as a videographer. Primarily filming and editing weddings because I just love love so much. I can’t get enough of how great weddings are! They are wonderful! I enjoy each and every one more than the last because they are so different and unique and special!!!!! I found a girl that likes me… crazy as that is. Her name is Kaity and she will be joining the family in Connecticut for Christmas this year. A real sink or swim situation. Also, I am an expert chef now.
Okay, that’s all I’ve got this year. As we kids grow older it seems our lives get drastically more boring. Ahh the routine of adulthood.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I like the Yankees, watching TV shows and talking about stuff.
