I'd like Greg Bird to stay heathy for the full season. I think I'd take that as a win. If he hits 30 homers over the course of that time that would be nice as well. A healthy and productive season is where we will start though. Let's get that.
I wish Starlin was healthy for all of 2017 to see how the full season would have played out. He started incredibly hot. Then got hurt because he doesn't run through first base and pulls up as soon as he hits the bag like a jackass. They rushed him back to start the second half and it showed. When he played and was healthy he put together good numbers.
It was his second full season as a second basemen. He's not a gold glover over there. Hopefully, as he continues to play he develops and grows. I think people forget that he switched positions in 2015.
Didi really put himself on the map last year. He also shoved himself into the hearts of Yankee fans. Show me a Yankee fan that has a problem with Didi right now and I'll show you a god damned fool.
Do you Didi!
That's all I got.
Chase is coming off his best year as a Yankee. He was 1 of only 4 players to play over 125 games for us. He changed positions mid season and didn't miss a beat. Did he have his one dead stretch though? He sure did.
For 16 games in May he his .105 with a .121 OBP. People hang on to these 16 games like they tell the story of his full season. People love to hate Chase. What did he do in the other 131 games? Doesn't matter! He STINKS! Well, in those 131 non slump games he hit .293 with a .365 OBP. Is he an all star? Nope. Is he a top tier 3rd basemen? Nope. Is a nice steady player that does his job and brings something to the table? Yup.
Chase will start the 2018 season at third base. Once Gleyber comes up Headley will transition to the 1B/3B/DH role he was in at the end of 2017. It almost makes too much sense.
Lil Baby Toe! What a season he had. Filled in for Didi and the SS position didn't miss a beat. Filled in for Starlin and 2B didn't miss a beat. I said on Talkin Yanks that I wouldn't be surprised if Cashman traded him this winter. His value may be at an all time high. I don't think it's crazy to think Cashman may make a move similar to Shane Green for Didi or John Ryan Murphy for Hicks. Trading high value for high ceiling.
I don't want Toe gone. I can just see a trade like that happening. He's valuable on the field and in the clubhouse. A short guy who can make fun of himself for being short is always nice (I say this as a short guy who often makes fun of himself for being short so I am very biased).
I would have to think pitchers catch on to Toe in 2018. I wouldn't be surprised to see some pitchers roll the first pitch to the plate knowing Toe will try to swing at it like he's playing bocce ball.
If Gleyber makes the team out of spring training I would be shocked. Not because of skill but because of paper work. If Gleyber starts the season with the Yankees then 2018 will count as a full season of service time. If he starts in AAA but comes to the MLB in mid April then 2018 doesn't count as a full year of service time.
In simpler terms... you can trade 10 games of Gleyber during his rookie season for a 162 games of Gleyber during his prime years. Pretty easy choice, no? It's the same thing the Cubs did with Kris Bryant back in the day.
Gleyber is also the only rookie I think the Yankees are counting on to come to the bigs and help carry the team right away. He is in our 2018 plans, no doubt about that.
He's coming off Tommy John surgery on his non throwing arm. I don't see that having much of an effect on him. Go Gleyber Go!
Tyler Wade had himself a Aaron Judge first audition. In 30 games he hit .155 with an OBP of .222. Not the best! Him and Aaron seem to best of friends. They've been playing with each other since the beginning. Hopefully, he can pick Judge's ear and find the proper corrections to make. He was widely regarded as the most MLB ready player in AAA last year. His future is still bright. I could see him making the team off a good spring training. The super utility position is all the rage these days. Without a true DH clogging up a spot, a guy like Wade could come in and spell anyone for a day. Just need to get the bat going and remember that confidence is key.
I fear that Tyler Austin will become the new Refsynder. The Yankees don't seem to have him in their future plans. He's a meathead who can mash fastballs but can rarely touch his lips together on account tobacco.
Maybe he gets called up every series against the Sox to remind Sale he's his bitch. Maybe he gets traded. It's tough to say he should be kept on the team as a backup 1B or RF when he isn't necessarily good at defending either of those positions. With no true position to play and not that much space on the bench I think Austin may be a good trade piece for the Yanks.
Miguel "CALL UP" Andujar! What a fun time we had with his name last season. I'm joking. The prospect obsessed fans basically ruined him. Instead of getting excited about this stud in the system we got annoyed by simpletons screaming his name every second like he were the Beatles.
I'm not sure where he fits in the infield in 2018. I believe he will get a shot to come up and prove himself, injuries or not we should get at least one visit from Miguel.
Congratulations on making the 40 man Thairo! Keep working and get better! If you get called up this year that means some seriously bad stuff is happening with Yankees.
I like the Yankees, watching TV shows and talking about stuff.
