Since the start of the season we have watched Montgomery grind through games without his stuff. The announcers, the coaches, and the fan have all been saying, imagine what he will be able to do when he has all his pitches working. Well that was what he did tonight. He looked sharp. It was the pitching performance we needed. And then it was taken away from us really quick. That sucked.
I get what Joe's mindset was. Gumby is at 98 pitches. He just gave up a homer and a hard out to Hosmer. He's probably not at full strength and the Royals have there best hitter coming up. Bring in a fresh arm to face him and lets go get some more runs. It's not a terrible thought process. It didn't work. Warren blows it. Warren shouldn't blown it there.
If it's flipped though, if Joe leaves Montgomery in and he blows the lead, I don't think as much heat is coming his way. Some fans would be screaming "you should have taken him out" but not that many. Either way it was the wrong decision... because it didn't work.
Headley almost came up pretty big for us in the 8th but Hosmer decided to be a dick and catch the ball.
Gary has looked bad in his last four or five at bats. Down to 0-2 quick then swing and miss at an outside curve. Need him to send one to the facade tomorrow. Or at least make solid contact.
Hicks has been so clutch for this team. His ability to be inserted into any outfield spot on any day is huge. Last year he did not take to pinch hitting. He was garbage at it. This year it doesn't matter what was going on before he got into the batters box, he's mashing.
Let's take the great start by Gumby, and the back-to-back homer games by Carter and go into tomorrow with some high spirits. Severino needs to take us deep.
That's it. Go yanks.
I like the Yankees, watching TV shows and talking about stuff.
