A standard suburban family gets thrown a curveball when the mom becomes the undead and can now only survive by eating human flesh. Her husband and kids stick beside her and become a family of killers. Much like in Dexter they won't just kill just anyone, they have a code. And much like Scream Queens this show seems to threading that line between comedy and horror/gore. Very interesting.
I have no idea how I feel about it. I'm going to give it a chance, because I watch everything, but I'm fairly skeptical. I've never been the biggest Barrymore fan although that hasn't stopped me from enjoying a handful of her movies. Timothy Olyphant is awesome. I have never seen him in a roll and not enjoyed it. It is created by Victor Fresco, the man behind My Name is Earl and Better of Ted. That doesn't reassure me much. The first two episodes are directed by the guy who directed Zombieland and that seems like a perfect fit.
My hope is that all the comedy doesn't come from the shock of her eating humans. I'm not a fan of gross out humor. Don't try to make me laugh just by doing something gross. Put the jokes in the dialogue and the context. It's the pictures like this that have me most hesitant.
The episodes are only a half an hour each so it will move quickly. I'll get back to you next week with my thoughts on it.
