In the first scene Lorna Bow is detained and brought to a dungeon like prison for her actions at the end of last episode. (assaulting the Duke of Richmond)
Solomon Coop is there waiting for her. He wants her to detest Dead Delaneys will on the grounds that he was insane. He has all the paper work already done for her. He also wants her to sign over her half of the Nootka trading post to the British crown. He tells her all this while stripping her naked.
Coop doesn’t fuck around! Either sign these documents or get raped by criminals in this dungeon and then hang for attempted murder.
The underlings from The Company show up and ruin Coops plans. The documents only gave Nootka to the crown and not the Company as well. It seems Delaney tipped off the Company about what Coop was doing, which makes it seem like Delaney was behind everything. He orchestrated having Lorna kidnapped and assaulting the Duke, he knew Coop would bribe her and he tipped off the Company to stop the bribe. Anyone else’s head spinning?
If that’s the case. The two reasons why Delaney would do that are 1. to get the Company and the Crown on opposite sides again and 2. to get Lorna Bow to see their evil and be on his side.
Godfrey fills Delaney in on the latest Company meaning. The Crown will not offer him the monopoly he asked for. The Company concludes that the only thing he would be able to trade with the Indians of Nootka is gun powder so they have barred him from ever being able to purchase gunpowder.
Godfrey also tells Delaney that they will crucify everyone he keeps around him. Delaney responds that anyone he keeps around him deserves what they get.
Next Delaney breaks up a chemist fucking one of his groupies. The chemist is upset because he believes in blue balls but then isn’t so upset when Delaney bribes him with gold.
Lorna Bow joins “the league of the damned” and is now on Team Delaney. Her first order is to bring Delaney a trunk of his fathers belongings. Also there is now officially a lot of sexual tension between the two. We know this because they talk two inches from each others faces.
At night Delaney covers himself in ashes, eats what we can guess is human, and does a ritual into the fire that gives his sister an orgasm miles away in her bed. How bout that!?
Geary comes home to find his wife post voodoo fire orgasm and can tell something weird happened. If he only knew.
Delaney sets the Chemist up with a workshop on a farm where he will be tasked with making gun powder from scratch materials.
Another assassin comes for Delaney and we get an even more gruesome fight and death scene. Delaney hooks him like a hay bale and guts him.
Delaney goes to Helga and pays her to close for the night so they can go to the pub and piss into buckets since the chemist suggested using urine laced with alcohol for the gunpowder. He then visits Atticus, his ferryman to have the barrels of piss transferred to the barn. He also tells Atticus that he is planning a robbery.
The last third of the episode takes place at a party of the high class. Somewhere Delaney for sure does not belong. He got invited by a Countess Musgrove and also by the Americans. He brings Lorna Bow with him.
Before entering the party he gives a young girl a gun and receives a bag from the chemist.
The party gets really fun when he sees his sister Zilpha there and finds her outside to have a chat. They talk about how he visits her in the night by doing weird shit and gives her orgasms. She doesn’t like it all that much. He says when he left England he was told he was mad and now he knows who to use that madness.
Dumbarton shows up and tells Delaney that the assassin was sent from the Americans. This makes sense since Delaney left Nootka to the Americans in his will. Dumbarton offers free passage to America for Delaney and his sister. He also says if his sisters husband Geary is too big an obstacle they will kill Geary for him.
Atticus and Helga, with a helper each, rob a fat guy and his satchels of something.
Lorna has a chat with Zilpha questioning her relationship with her brother.
We find out that Countess Musgrove, the host of the party is actually Genevieve Duque from New Orleans AKA the US spy named Carlsbad that Delaney has been trying to get in touch with.
Delaney says he wants to meet at the embassy in paris. Carlsbad says “No, you will sign [Nootka Sound] to the United States or we will kill you”
Geary sees Delaney at the party. He’s drunk and gets outraged by the sight of him. Delaney drags him outside because he felt he needed some air. Zilpha calls out “James please don’t” and this REALLY IRKS Geary. In the opening scene Lorna called him James to Coop and he was taken back. I guess it’s taboo to call him by his first name.
Anyways, Geary challenges Delaney to a duel to the death. So next episode we will see Geary die.
Here's What We Know
We know that Delaney is making gunpowder.
We know that he does not care about his team of accomplices. He told his sister last week that they had no value to him after his plan was finished. This week he told Godfrey they all deserved what they had coming to them. So it's safe to say Delaney doesn't give a fuck about anyone but his sister. Lorna Bow might become someone he cares about in the future but I do not see his step mother replacing his sister on his number one lover list.
We know that Solomon Coop is smarter and scarier than Sir Strange but we also know the Delaney is smarter and scarier than the two of them combined. Delaney is seven steps ahead of them at all times.
We know that he can't be killed. With the duel taking place next episode, that will mean he has escaped death three times in three straight episodes.
We know that the Americans were offering to kill Geary so Delaney could have Zilpha all to himself. This was the best deal offered to Delaney but now that Geary has signed his own death warrant Delaney will be able to kill him himself. Thus taking the Americans best offer off the table.
We know he told the Americans he wanted a monopoly on the tea trade and he told the British he wanted a monopoly on the beaver pelt trade, which makes us believe he doesn't want either of those things.
What We Don't Know
What the hell Delaney's end game is.
