The episode opens with Winters funeral. Delaney is there but watching from a distance.
The chemist brings young Robert to the Delaney household. Lorna Bow takes him in with open arms.
Atticus rows Helga down the water for Winters river burial.
George Chichester, the man investigating the sinking of The Influence visits James at his house and gives us some background on James. “You traveled the volta as a slave, and then began to deal slaves. You stole diamonds from a fellow slaver and then returned to London,” he tells Delaney. He then makes his pitch. If Delaney writes an account of the sinking, which states it was Sir Strange who put the ship in motion to help deliver slaves to his brother in Antiqua. If Delaney does this, Chichester tells him he will have a full royal pardon for his crimes.
Helga shoots at Delaney as he strolls through town. Missing his head by inches. It’s safe to say she thinks Delaney is the one who killed her daughter.
Zilpha comes to visit her lover only to get her heart broken. Delaney says, you have changed, we used to be the same person but now I don’t like you. Take this diamond though, that’ll cheer you up.
Delaney takes Atticus to the mental hospital where his mother was kept. This will be his new gun powder factory. He needs Atticus to fix the roof. He also says they are not going to kill Helga even though they know she will go to the Company to rat.
Brace is super sad. He confesses to James that he was the one who poisoned his father. He says he did it as a kindness because he was crazy and burning his own flesh. Delaney already knew. A big hint being that Brace bought a ton of rat poison but the house still had a lot of rats. Instead of responding with anger James tells Brace to go downstairs and cook because Lorna sucks at it. He wasn’t lying about that.
Helga visits Sir Strange and rats on Delaney just like he says she will. Sir Strange gets straight giddy! "We have him. We fucking have him. We have Delaney. We have Nootka. We have the China trade. We have opium, tea and powder. He'll be cut to pieces." He then throws Helga in jail for treason.
James sits by the river and starts a fire to conjure up some visions. Godfrey finds him to inform him about Helga. They ride off together on Delaney's horse. Godfrey was probably in heaven, his legs straddling Delaney's.
The Company and The Crown have a meeting. The Company offers Nootka Sound to the Crown. Since, they have Helga held prisoner and she is the key to Delaney's conviction they use her as a bartering piece. They will make sure she stays safe and convicts Delaney in exchange for a monopoly on the beaver pelts for tea trade. Crown gets the land. Company gets the trade. Solomon Coop agrees to this deal. In this meeting The Company also hints that they had a part in bringing Helga in, which means they killed Winter and framed Delaney.
James brings Godfrey to Chichester. If Godfrey testifies that The Company owned the sunken slave ship then Delaney won't have to. Godfrey is scared and cries. James comforts him by saying, "all you have to do is play along. We will sail away before you actually have to testify. You will sail on my ship and you can be whoever you want on my ship. Hurray!" Godfrey does it.
Delaney is arrested for High Treason. He doesn't attempt to fight it.
Lorna has a chat with one of Winters little sewer rat friends named Temple who tells her that he saw Winter get killed and it was the East India Company who did it.
Solomon Coop has Delaney set up in a torture chamber. He tells him that he needs to inform the Crown of everything he knows about the American Spy ring. Delaney asks to see Sir Strange first. Coop doesn't allow it. A little torture takes place. Some water boarding. Delaney doesn't seem to care all that much. They then force him to swallow poison.
Chichester interrupts Strange on the golf course and lets him know he has a new witness that will testify against The Company. Sir Strange figures out that it is Godfrey. Poor Godfrey.
After over twelve hours of torture and no results the Prince Regent instructs Coop to give him what he wants. Delaney now has his meeting with Sir Stewart Strange.
What We Don't Know
What Delaney's use for Stewart Strange will be. Maybe he tells Strange that he will kill Godfrey and Chichester in return for something. Maybe he just wants Strange in the room with him as a distraction so Atticus, Godfrey and the others can carry out the true plan.
If Helga will ever believe that it wasn't James who killed Winter.
If Godfrey will ever be free and happy.
What We Learned
We actually got a good amount of answers this week. We know that Delaney did not kill Winter. We know that Brace killed Horace out of sympathy and was probably going to do the same thing to James if he started to get too crazy. We learned that Delaney was shipped as a slave and the became a slaver. He got his diamonds by stealing them from another slaver. We learned that Lorna is a bad cook and that the Prince Regent enjoys spinning a globe.
Delaney wins. The Crown and The King lose!
I like the Yankees, watching TV shows and talking about stuff.
