The episode jumps right into the action with Zilpha jumping off a bridge, in an official attempt to set herself free from the ‘iron bars around her soul”
Delaney and Sir Strange have their meeting. Delaney tells him that he has four hours to provide him with a ship. If he gets the ship then he and Godfrey will not confess against Strange.
Little Robert runs around London delivering messages to The League of the Damned. Helga is put in a wagon and moved by EIC men. Delaney is sick in jail and needs a doctor. A plan is most definitely in motion.
Atticus kidnaps the stagecoach that Helga is riding in. This was part of the deal between Delaney and Strange. Atticus then kills the fat EIC guy. This was not part of the deal as far as the fat guy was concerned. It seems Strange knew it was going to happen. Payback for the Company killing Winter.
Lorna Bow has the little boy, Temple tell Helga what he saw. That is was the Company who killed Winter and not James. She then visits Countess Musgrave, AKA Carlsbad, and informs her that James will blow her cover as a spy to the Crown if she does not give them safe passage through the blockade.
Because the Company dropped their charges against Delaney the Crown is forced to set him free. He arrives at home to find Zilpha's suicide letter. He isn’t convinced she is dead. If she was dead in the river then he would hear her sing to him.
Chichester finds out that Delaney and the Company have agreed to terms, which means his investigation into the sinking of The Influence is all for naught.
Delaney visits Dumbarton. Dumbarton says he can’t hand over the letter of safe passage. Only problem there is, James already has the letter of safe passage. Lorna Bow got it from Countess Musgrave. Delaney already knew, because of course he did, but this confirms that Dumbarton is a double agent. Working for the USA and The Company. Delaney doesn’t really like that so he kills him.
Killing leads to his first visions of Zilpha in the river. She swims around. They do some under water making out. It's one of his more pleasant visions I would say.
The skinny EIC man delivers a ship to Delaney's men then promptly gets shot in the face and dies.
The Prince Regent finally says enough is enough. He doesn't care about any of it anymore. He just wants Delaney dead.
Delaney lets Brace know he is not coming to Nootka with him. "Brace you were not born for freedom. You wouldn't know what to do with it. It would torture you."
The Soldiers enter the docks to find Delaney and the Chemist blows em up.
While running to the ship Helga drops her pistol. For some reason she thinks it's important enough to go grab. She gets shot and dies. Lorna gets shot. Atticus gets wounded. The Chemist gets blown up. It's not looking good for the League of the Damned.
Delaney, Atticus, The Chemist, Lorna Bow, Godfrey, the curly haired whore and Robert make it to the ship and sail away.
Sir Strange opens a letter from Dumbarton, which he believes to be the tea monopoly signed over to him. It is in fact a bomb. He gets blown up.
Chichester heads to the Delaney household. James has left his and Godfreys written account of The Influence there for him. Chichester gets his justice.
Delaney tells Atticus that they are sailing to the Azores to find a man called Colonnade under the guise of the American flag.
I'm pretty conflicted. A big part of me feels that this ending was just too simple. If Delaney arrived after his father died and left the day he was awarded everything in the will would all of this had been necessary. If he took the deed to the land and left on his ship immediately. I guess the thing he was waiting for the most was his sister coming along with him. This plot line became a huge dud. She came too him. He changed his mind. Then she killed herself. What? Their was so much time spent on that love story.
The show gave us great characters and very delicate storytelling. Those were the two best things it had going for it. You had to really pay attention to figure out what the fuck James was up to. The problem is I still don't know what he's really up too. We knew he wanted Nootka for himself and wanted to sail to away from London but there had to be a greater cause. I guess that greater cause will be revealed in season 2.
Some sporadic thoughts....
Little Robert was the MVP of this episode. That kid ran all over London delivering envelopes.
The Chemist is awesome. I think he will survive for season two solely because of how beloved his character became.
Pat on the back to me, I predicted Zilpha would kill her husband and Dumbarton would try to fuck Delaney over.
Lorna Bow is a badass and they need to make her James equal in the second season.
I can't believe Godfrey, poor Godfrey, survived the season and is alive and well on the ship. I thought he was a goner for sure.
I still like Solomon Coop.
Zillpha's story line was incredibly wasted. They spend a lot of time on that all for nothing.
After episode 3 I broke down which characters I was rooting for, which ones I wanted to see dead, which ones I was skeptical of and which ones I felt bad for (just Godfrey). After eight episodes not much changed. The only character I came around on was the Prince Regent. I said I wanted to see him dead but only because he was terrible to look at.
I thought when they made this it was intended to be a single season show. If tonights episode was the series finale that would have SUCKED. Season two needs to give a lot more answers.
I like the Yankees, watching TV shows and talking about stuff.
