Sonny Gray just pitched his best game as a Yankee and has absolutely nothing to show for it.
8 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs and A LOSS. Jesus Christ boys, what did Sonny ever do to you? Don't you remember him during the brawl? He got involved! He had your backs! He pinned the shit out of Castellanos! How about a little fight for him in return?
The Yankees had 3 hits. Can't win games with 3 hits. All the hits came from the old guys too. Brett, Chase, and Holliday. This team is very much broken up into the older guys and the younger ones. So far it is very clear that the veterans are much more understanding of the situation at hand. They know that having a chance at the playoffs is special. They've waited their turn and played through enough losing seasons to know this isn't a common thing.
I'd love to start seeing the younger guys really fight and grind out at bats the way Brett, Chase, Holliday and even Jacoby have been doing.
There were two very gross things about this game. The first being the Yankees offense. The second being Blake Snells face.
Some Good Stuff
The good stuff we can take from this game are Sonny was dominant. He didn't nibble. He attacked the zone and let his defense play for him. That's not always his approach but it was nice to see him change it up. It was also nice to see him bear down and get two big strikeouts when he needed them the most.
Clint had two nice rips. Both outs. Maybe one would have cleared the wall at the Trop. Definitely the stadium. Good sign.
I like the Yankees, watching TV shows and talking about stuff.
