SAN FRANCISCO — Uber Technologies is speeding ahead with plans for flying cars that could zoom between urban centers such as Silicon Valley, San Francisco and Oakland by hiring a NASA veteran who has presented research about the possibilities.
Alright well first and foremost those are called airplanes. They already exist. They were invented in 1903 by a pair of brothers and looked like this.
Secondly, this is the best distraction plan of all time. Everyone hates Uber right now and there are massive boycotts going on. #deleteuber has been trending. What's the best way to change the headline? Tell people you are going to invent flying cars and change the world! Fool proof strategy. PR 101. Change the narrative. Good job by them.
Thirdly, there is no way this actually becomes a thing. It would help a couple hundred rich people a day and that's all. This would do nothing to help traffic. I'm not a math guy but you have thousands of car commuters in the bay area. Probably 100 percent of them will not be able to afford a daily $129 flight. This would only be used by Rich people visiting the Bay Area on a business trip and at that point its basically just a cheap private jet situation. If it did become a thing the hipsters would be up in arms about air pollution and chem trails. After the first mishap the media would go into a frenzy. And there just wouldn't be enough seats on planes and air space to fly the amount you would need to make a dent in the traffic. The only thing that could fix traffic in the Bay Area would be a deadly plague that kills half the population.
